Caring Hearts Center

Our Caring Hearts Center thrift store has a lot to choose from. Profits from the store allow us to help minister to the people of Washington County.

History:

The Caring Hearts Center opened on December 5, 2005, after the Helping Hands was closed earlier in the year. On May 14, 2007 the Executive Committee of the Washington Baptist Association voted to change the name to "The Paul & Mavis Kendrick Caring Hearts Center" in honor of their lifetime service to the Lord and their love and devotion to all the people of Washington County.

The CHC closed on June 16, 2009 for renovations and an addition to the building which resulted in the building being approximately four times the previous size. This relocated the front of the building to Jordan Street instead of E. Front Street.

Many years have passes since a vision of building a new, larger building for CHC first started. We looked into building on the lot next to the Washington Baptist Association but the lot work and additional costs were beyond our means financially. We looked at the possibility of locating an existing building that would meet our needs but were unsuccessful. We did all we could do, and then the Lord worked out something we hadn't even thought of. Isn't God good! We were offered the lots behind the current location at a a very reasonable price. We then contacted the owner of the building now housing the CHC about the possibility of purchasing that building. The owner offered that building at a very reasonable price. Therefore we were able to expand at the current location. Local volunteers did the construction to add on to the existing building to the building we have today.

CHC sells donated clothes, household items and various other items at a reasonable price. The funds we receive are used to keep the store running and to help qualified people in Washington County with emergencies, including utilities that are about to be cut off or have already been cut off, prescriptions, and people who have suffered from a house fire.

We have a uniform swap. People can bring in their gently used school uniforms and exchange them for new ones.

We wish to thank all the people of Washington County for their generosity through the years. It takes a lot to manage the donations, get them priced and out on the floor for your shopping enjoyment. We rely on your time and talents to help run the store. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our team.
